What exactly is NewWayFitness

As Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary, Dr. Howard K. Koh put it, physical activity is ". . . the best vaccine we have for numerous diseases . . .  In many ways physical activity is a prime example of prevention at its very best."  

As a fitness educator for over 35 years, our Founder became alarmed by the constant decreases in fitness levels and increases in waist sizes and sedentary related chronic diseases. Families, schools and work organizations continue to be challenged to provide more effective fitness solutions. With this in mind and in conjunction with the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park, his team conceived and developed the NewWayFitness Programs' to provide proven, cost effective solutions to increase healthy physical activity at home, at school, and at the work place! 

 The NewWayFitness Approach

It was Einstein who said "Insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different reuslts". It's a fact that there are currently millions of people who know "exercise" is good for them but choose not to do it on a regular basis. Let's take a cue from Einstein. We don't have to "exercise" to maintain our health, we just have to be physically active and we get to choose our mindset when doing so!  

Exercise or Play? Workout or Have Fun? We’ll get the bad news behind us first. It’s a fact of life and one we just cannot get around: our genetic makeup requires us to engage in daily physical activity. It's called the Principle of Use - Disuse and it goes like this: If we use our bodies, they get stronger.  If we don’t use them, they get weaker. Further, our genetics creates the equation which determines our body weight. It’s actually pretty simple. Calories that go in (consumed) minus calories that go out (expended) equals our body weight. Because our genetic makeup changes very slowly, our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will all have to manage these same principles throughout their life.

Here’s the good news! We have choices with regard to physical activity. We can exercise or we can play. We can work out or we can have fun. It’s up to us to decide! If in the past, you or other family members have attempted an "exercise" routine but are no longer doing it on a regular basis, do not despair: it most likely wasn’t the person, it was the approach. The fact is, even though a majority of Americans know that exercise is good for them, they do not do it on a regular basis.

The NewWayFitness program's emphasize purposeful fun and personal success to encourage children and adults to get up, keep moving, and get more out of life. If exercise is not working for you, then make having fun your physical activity priority.

 Additional Support: The two private NewWayFitness community web sites, the KidZone and Parent Support Center, are unique in that they serve as web portals identifying carefully selected physical activity, nutrition, weight management, and other health related programs and resources that can be used for day to day guidance.

Some people like the discipline of "exercise" and that's fine. For the majority who do not "have fun, go easy, and go forever!"
